 Pricing, Commissions and More Work

Portraits make a rare and unique gift for loved ones or for yourself.
They are ideal for Christmas, Mothers Day, Graduation, Valentine's Day, Birthdays, Special Occasions, or just to show someone how special they are. A work of art reaches into the heart of an individual in ways not possible with photography. A portrait can become a cherished family heirloom, passing into generations.

Personality Portraits are portraits that also capture images that are a vital part of the subjects life or personality .
I paint the client with objects or in surroundings that represent their heart and soul, their thoughts & ideas, fantasies & dreams.

I have painted people with their dream animals, or walking in the forests of their ancestral homes. I have turned them into knights, wizards and fairies, painted unicorns and angels. What is important to YOUR life? What objects, colors or worlds represent YOUR psyche?
Commissions can be anything from a house, car, pet, there is not much that I can't recreate on canvas. Take a look at the thumbnails and you'll get some ideas.

The Subject-

I can work from photos or from life-
A likeness of an individual is my main goal of course, and all of my work comes 100% guaranteed, but I also try to capture the mood and personality of the individual as well.

Photos
should be clear and precise. Look at the nose, the lips, the eyes. Can you see the details? If you can't I may not be able to either. Unless it's a surprise gift, it's also preferable to see the subject in person. I also charge very little to take my own photos in studio.

Life-drawing requires a good model that has the ability to keep a pose. It takes about 3 sessions of three hours each, with breaks every 25 minutes.

The Art-

I specialize in two mediums for my portrait work-

Pencil Portrait-
Each sketch is done as a rough drawing first. When I'm happy with that I trace the major elements of the sketch onto a clean piece of paper. This insures clean, high details. Some artists use charcoal, while I use very hard pencils and layer them from light to dark. I've been doing pencil work for years and achieve great effects quickly, making pencil work very affordable.

Watercolor Portrait-
My watercolors are a technique called drybrush, which uses very little water. The paint is almost drawn on, layer upon layer, thousands of small brushstrokes. A watercolor adds warmth and makes the characters almost come off of the paper.

The Price-

For centuries Portraits could only be commissioned as a status symbol for the very wealthy. I try to make my work affordable to everyone.
Though prices vary from the number of subjects, size, and other considerations,...

Pencil Portraits
start at $100.00
Watercolor Portraits start at $300.00
* If you are a parent who has lost a young child, my usual fee is waved.  I can do your work for whatever you can afford.  Email me for consideration.

Procedure

Call (512) 458-6022 or email me with any questions or ideas you may have. Once you decide to commission me for a project, an artists agreement is prepared. It lists the details of the commission, size, price, medium, etc. Upon signing, a downpayment is required of 50% of the final price of the work. After I finish the work, I matte it free of charge, or frame it for an agreed upon price. I guarantee satisfaction 100%
